Biography

Brighton: August 11, 2008 at age 95. Predeceased by wife, Shaney. Survived by son & daughter-in-law, Joel & Judy Cohen; daughter & son-in-law, Sandra & David Goldman; brother & sister-in-law, Si & Shirlee Collins; 7 grandchildren, Mindy (Sam), Michael (Susan), Daniel (Candice), Douglas, Andrew, Jason and Matt (Lynsey); great grandchildren, Caleb, Eden & Keegan and several nieces & nephews. Art was the originator of Artco Industrial Laundries, a commercial laundry that served all of Western, NY for more than 50 years. Family came first but he also loved golfing, fishing and sports, especially football. A childhood pastime of collecting pennies grew into a lifetime passion for numismatics. He also became an avid collector and a recognized expert of Israeli stamps. He was a 60 year member and PDGC of the Knights of Pythias. One of the founders of the Walter Hagen Charity Golf Tournament where he was presented with the 13th annual Founders Award “Man of the Year” by the Rochester Chapter of the American Cancer Society and was honored in 1994 by being awarded the Benjamin & Seymour Krieger Special Contributor Award by the Rochester Chapter of Sports for Israel. Graveside Services will be held 1PM on Wednesday, August 13th at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Palliative Care Program, Strong Memorial Hospital or charity of donor’s choice. The family will receive friends at The Summit at Brighton, 2000 Summit Circle Dr. on Wednesday from 3-5 PM.
